Outfit Formula: Cardigan, Tank, Pants

Sweater:  Target (last year) - Top:  Target (last year) - Jeans - Gap (old) - Shoes:  Crown Vintage via DSW (this spring)
Here is another casual Friday look and another outfit formula.  I have noticed I do a lot of tank top, cardigan and pants looks.  Pretty simple.  I did put on a necklace after taking these pictures.
Here are some other looks with this formula:

Frugal Option: Pottery Barn Cardiff Upholstered Armchair

I have not done any design stuff or home interiors stuff on this blog for years but wanted to share this look for less find.  I have recently purchased some new things for our house from Pottery Barn (love everything we have gotten so far) and really like their Cardiff Upholstered Armchair (below).  I was browsing on Target's website and found a pretty similar style (bottom).  I know the quality of the Pottery Barn chair is very good but haven't seen the Target version in person.

A Dress From the Back of The Closet

Dress:  Collective Concepts (old) - Vest:  Old Navy (super old) - Shoes:  Lifestride via Kohl's (here -recent)
I really like the idea of this dress.  I like it on the hanger.  But when I put it on, the sleeves are constantly falling off my shoulders and it annoys me that I have to wear a cami underneath it since the top is sheer.  Plus the sleeves are a bit billowy which makes it uncomfortable to put a sweater or jacket on over them which is a necessity if I wear this to work.  I put this vest on over it for a little added interest, to try to keep a little warmer in the office tundra and just to keep the dress on my shoulders.
So it has been hanging unworn in my closet for at least two years, I wore it once and now it is in my pile to be consigned.  Thankfully, the number of items like this is dwindling since I have started this process.  I'm going to get this wardrobe thing under control!

Remix: Tan Blazer and Striped Shirt

I don't have any new outfit pictures since I have been wearing a lot of things I have already blogged.  I think that is a good sign that I have a few outfits that I like enough to wear again and again.  But I do like the idea of creating different looks with the same items, mixing and matching a smaller wardrobe.  I browsed my outfit picture achieves to try and see if I have captured any remixing.  Not including my black pants that I wear all the time, here are a few remixes.

Outfit Formula: Printed Top & Solid Pants

Top:  Lucky Brand (old) - Jeans:  J.Crew (old) - Shoes:  J.Crew (old)

This is not a secret formula, nor is it very fashion forward, but I noticed I frequently wear printed tops to try and jazz up my outfits.  Above is what I wore to work for last Casual Friday and below are some other looks when I have used this "formula" of a printed top with a basic bottom.

Liking Lately

Wow — That's One Expensive Hobby

How I sometimes rationalize my shoe collection.

I'm really liking the idea of a tan suede button front skirt for fall.  Like this one (above) or this one.

I'm liking the idea of long skirts and tall boots (and scarves always).

All Abou Layering. Shop Thakoon for DesigNation.
I like the Thakoon for Kohl's collection.  But it could just be because it is my winter uniform of black tights and ankle boots. I ordered the plaid vest...I'll write a review soon.

Basic But Not Boring

Top:  LOFT (last winter) - Pants:  Old Navy (old) - Shoes:  Franco Sarto via DSW (last year)
I don't mind this outfit.  It's basic but not too boring.  I keep meaning to get rid of these black pants since they do the bunching thing in the knees that bother me but I seem to still reach for them.  I am kicking myself for not wearing this top more this summer.  I bought it on super clearance last winter and have been "saving it" since I like it.  I should have been wearing it all this time!  It can be worn all year with a cardigan or jacket over.

A Slight Remix

Sweater:  Old Navy (last year?) - Top:  LOFT (old) - Skirt:  Caslon via Nordstrom (last year) - Shoes:  Nordstrom (last summer)
I am striving for a smaller amount of clothes - just things I love that I can mix and match.  That's the goal of this whole exercise.  I hope to figure out my style, stop impulse shopping and get to that point.  I'm struggling a bit with the mix and matching part (along with the rest of it!).  Take this skirt for example, I only wear it with white or ivory tops.  I can't figure out what else to wear with it.  I do wear it with different white or ivory tops like here and one time even added a denim jacket and a different top (here).  But it still seems like the same look to me...just a very slight remix.

August Clothing Budget

Top Left:  Old Navy Gray Short Sleeve - $16.94 - This was a total impulse buy when I was in the store returning a sweater I bought back in July.  I thought it would be good with my black midi skirt, as worn here.

Middle:  LOFT Button Front Midi Skirt - $41.70 - I love this online but in person it is a bit shiny and wrinkly.  So I may return it.

Top Right:  Life Stride Peep Toe Booties - $37.00 - I have been looking for peep toe booties in narrow and these are perfect!  Love.  I bought these at Kohl's when I had a birthday coupon and a 30% off discount.

Right Middle:  J.C. Penny ANA Roll Sleeve Shirt - $10.94 - I had a $10 off coupon for Penny's so wandered in and found this.  I know I will wear this all fall.

Bottom Left:  ModCloth Striped Hooded Top - $29.99 - Please help me to not online shop when I'm bored or don't want to distract myself...  It's cute though...but I don't need it.

Bottom Right:  Amazon Volcom 5" Black Short - $13.46 - My old black shorts don't fit anymore and these are a great replacement.  I've already worn them several times.

DSW Steve Madden Rubin Boot in Cognac - $69.50 - I had my birthday coupon for DSW and hoped to find some flat cognac boots since I didn't find any I liked last winter.  I hope these will be great this fall and winter.
Not Pictured:  LOFT Floral Jacquard Sweatshirt in Ivory - $29.70

I'm still struggling with impulse buys and shopping as a hobby...  I enjoy it so much but end up with things I don't need or that don't even fit right.  I'm still working on it.  This month I bought a few things that I know I will wear this fall and winter a lot so I guess I am making some progress.  I also got rid of quite a bit more from my closet and had good luck selling on eBay.

What I donated this month:

1 Dress
5 Tank Tops
3 Sweaters
1 Shirt
1 Pair of Pajamas
1 Skirt

E-Bay Sales: $163.59 profit
