It's Just OK

Cardigan:  Mossimo via Target (old) - Top:  Banana Republic (old) - Pants:  J.Crew New Campbell Capri (Feb. 2015) - Shoes:  J.Crew (old)

I almost didn't post this because I don't like it that much.  But this outfit photo taking project is to evaluate my wardrobe so here it is.  I don't love this outfit.  It's another one of those just ok ones but not totally my style.  I think each of these pieces are ok on their own but I don't love them together. At least I had color, pattern, texture and shine!

The cardigan is a dark burgundy and shows up lighter in these pictures than in real life.

Midi Pencil Skirt

Top:  Old Navy (same - August 2015) - Skirt:  Apt. 9 via Kohl's (similar - July 2015) - Shoes:  Life Stride Peep Toe Booties via Kohl's (same - August 2015)

Here are some recent purchases.  I don't hate it but I think the fit could be a little better on the top.  It is supposed to be over-sized but I wish it wasn't as over-sized.  Maybe it will shrink perfectly next time I wash it.  (Ha!  Does that ever happen?!)  I think I will like it better with skinny pants.  This skirt might need something a little more polished on top.

The shoes are awesome though.  They have a 3 inch heel but are really comfortable.  I have trouble with booties fitting.  Since I have narrow feet, they typically rub and give me blisters.  These came in a narrow width so they fit perfectly.  I think they will be a staple this fall.

And The Winner Is...

Top:  Old Navy (old) - Pants:  LOFT (old) - Shoes:  Steve Madden (old)
This has to be one of the finalists (or winner!) for most boring outfit ever worn by me.  It's odd, I really feel like my style is classic and somewhat minimalistic but some outfits feel so boring.  I guess Stacy and Clinton are right; you really need pattern, texture and shine to make an outfit interesting.  A completer piece also works wonders (like a jacket, cardigan or scarf).  This would have been better with a completer something.
I'm still pulling things out of my closet that I haven't worn yet this year.  I bought this top and pants either last year or the year before and haven't touched them at all since.  They seem like great basics so they survive closet clean outs but what's the point if I don't wear them?  The pants are good, just need to figure out more things to wear with them.  The top might not stay though, it's on the chopping block.

Culottes...Kind Of

Tried these first with my often worn Aerosole wedges (above) but decided to go with my ankle strap Vince Camuto's instead (bottom picture).  Why is this picture so dark?!

Top:  LOFT (December 2014) - Pants:  Vince Camuto via Nordstrom (July 2015) - Shoes:  Vince Camuto via Nordstrom Rack (old)

These are the pants I bought from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last month.  I bought the petite version and they still aren't truly culottes on me.  My legs are crazy short.  Crazy.  I guess I should become friends with a tailor.  I don't hate how these fit though.  They are just more like cropped wide legs.  Not pictured:  cardigan for the office.

Liking Lately

I might be a bit obsessed with the olive midi skirt above from LOFT.

Again with a midi skirt, but this look is perfect for late summer - beginning of fall.

I've really liked the results of our super small garden this year.  Our zucchini plants are done but we had tons.  It was great! We only planted two tomato plants but the photo above shows an average day's harvest.  So we have a lot of tomatoes for only two people and one (not me) will only eat them if they are in a sauce that someone else yeah...I've been so far enjoying eating lots of tomatoes, trying lots of new tomato recipes and giving some away.   I may freeze some sauce this weekend.

I've been experimenting with non-dairy homemade ice cream like desserts lately.  My current favorite is frozen orange segments blended with coconut milk and honey.  I've also tried the much talked about peanut butter and frozen bananas (it's ok).  But I can't wait to try this Dole Whip recipe.

At Home Try On Review: Apt. 9 Surplice Jumpsuit from Kohl's

image via Kohl's
I have mentioned my impulse shopping habit on this blog before.  It's something that I am working on stopping, or at least reducing, but it still happens from time to time.  Take this jumpsuit for instance.  I saw it in an extra small at Kohl's and thought, "I've been wanting to try a jumpsuit!" and bought it.  I didn't take the time to try it on in the store so I did when I got home.

My initial thought was surprise that it fit as well as it did (the only issue were the pants being a little too long).  Also, the fabric is very substantial and drapes nicely which I like.  Then I asked myself my shopping questions.
  1. Do I love it? - Hmm... I think so...  kinda...  I like it.  I think I would love it if the legs were shorter or if they were wide leg.  I love, love the top part.
  2. Is it my style? - I think it is a bit trendier than I normally do but other than that it is my style.
  3. Can I wear it with other things I already have?  - I tried it with a knit jacket (see below) and didn't love it.  Maybe a jean jacket would be better or a more structured black jacket.
  4. Where would I wear this? - This is the big one.  I can't think of one place where I would wear this.  I don't think it is really work appropriate and I don't have anything coming up that this would work for.  I think this may be for that life I wish I had but don't.  It might be odd if I wore this watching TV on the couch.
So the verdict is...  return.  I'm going to return it.  I just don't know where I would wear it and don't think it is worth it for something I maybe, just maybe, might wear once.  But if you are in the market for a jumpsuit, I would highly recommend this one!

there is a snap to close the top

Sorta Professional

Top:  Kohl's (April 2015) - Pants:  eShakti (June 2015) - Shoes:  Aerosoles (old)
I managed to take one outfit picture while I've been out and about the past few days visiting centers for work.  I wanted to look a bit more professional for these meetings.  I like this top from Kohl's and the custom tailored pants from eShakti are great.  However, after wearing them for a bit I realized that they are both still a bit big. I think if they fit a little better this would look more professional.  Different shoes would also up the sophistication, but I went for comfort here.

Good in Theory

Sweater:  Forever 21 (old) - Pants:  Old Navy (same - June 2015) - Shoes:  Crown Vintage via DSW (March 2015)
So this outfit sounded good in theory but I didn't really care for it in reality.  I think a different shaped top would work better with these pants.  I don't like the necklace with the sweater either or maybe it just needed to be shorter.  For whatever reason, I just didn't feel comfortable in this.

From Boho to Boring

Top:  Old Navy (old) - Pants:  JCrew New Campbell Capri (Feb. 2015) - Shoes:  JCrew (old)
Yesterday's outfit had a bit of a boho vibe and some interest.  This outfit is a little basic.  It needs a completer piece like a scarf, sweater or jacket.  I hope the layered necklaces and shoes with the gold detail added enough interest because I couldn't think of anything else to put on this morning.

A Little Bit Boho

Jacket:  H&M (old) - Tank:  Target (last year) - Maxi:  Nordstrom (last year) - Shoes:  Topshop (old)
Everyone stops to take pictures of themselves when they see a full length mirror while out shopping right?
This is what I wore to work on Monday.  It is a bit more boho than I usually wear but it was comfortable and I felt somewhat put together.  The jacket was only for the cold office and the cold store.  It was nice to have the tank underneath for the drive to and from.  But for some reason I don't know if that jacket worked with the tank.  Something about it was off...the color of the jacket...the length of the jacket... I'm not sure but it just didn't feel quite right.  I love this tank though.  I have worn it a bunch since buying it last summer.

Blue Friday

Top:  Lucky Brand (old) - Jeans:  J.Crew (old) - Shoes:  J.Crew (old)
This shirt is another one of those things that has survived many a closet clean out but I have only worn once in all the years I have owned it.  I'm trying to whittle down my closet to things I actually wear and love so I gave this shirt another try.  I think I'm just never sure what to wear it with.  The last time I wore it, I wore it with white jeans.  This time I paired it with a pair of darker blue jeans.  I wore a white cardigan over it while in the office for casual Friday.  I think it might work with my navy wide leg pants too or navy shorts or khaki pants...
