Casual LBD

Sweater:  Lou & Gray via LOFT (last year) - Dress:  Merona via Target (March 2015, similar) - Shoes:  Franco Sarto via DSW (last year)
Another day, another black dress.  This is my short sleeve tee shirt dress (last worn here) which I decided to pair with a striped cardigan and flats for a more casual look.
Another sign of having too much in my closet is not having worn this sweater since August of last year.  Why am I not wearing this more often? I really think it just gets overlooked because I have so many things that are similar. I still have work to do to get my closet down to a workable wardrobe.  I'm constantly getting rid of things but never more than what I'm bringing in.  July's busted budget was a big disappointment for me and for August I will rein it back in.

July Clothing Budget

Well, July's budget is a bust.  I blame Nordstrom and their Anniversary Sale.  Last year I was on a quest to find a new winter coat that fit well, you know, the perfect amount of puffy to keep you warm and cute but not look like the Michelin Man.  I tried a million coats and never found one I loved.  So all winter I was wearing ill-fitting coats!  The horror!  So when I saw some North Face on sale and reviews that said the Aleycia jackets wasn't too puffy, I went for it.  I think the coat and vest are both winners.  Of course then I found other things I HAD to have at Nordstrom and some other stores....and the budget busted.  Thankfully Nordstrom has an awesome return policy and I can always return these things if it turns out they aren't perfect when the time comes to actually wear them.

Old Navy Striped Scoop Neck Sweater $6.29 - This was an impulse buy.  I might return it since the quality seems really poor and I for sure don't need it.
Old Navy Short Sleeve Sweater $14.55 - I thought it might be good with the black midi skirt below.  I'm not sure though since it is a bit darker than I thought it would be.

Athleta Purple Chi Top $24.30 - Another long sleeve work out shirt.
Nordstrom Vince Camuto Culottes $58.90 (reg. $89) - I'm still on the quest to find the perfect culottes.  These came in petite so I thought I'd give them a try.  I haven't received these yet so we will see how they fit.
Nordstrom Cupcakes & Cashmere Jacket $120.00 - I didn't want to love this jacket since I think the price is pretty steep for a polyester jacket but since I can't wear wool anyway and it fit perfectly....I bought it at full price {gasp}.
Nordstrom The North Face Gig Harbor Vest $79.90 (reg. $108)
Nordstrom The North Face Aleycia Jacket $110.90 (reg. $149)

Urban Outfitters Gray Lace V-Neck Top $5.00 - I purchased this at the Urban Outfitters outlet in Lincoln Park.  I love the stripes and the lace detail.
Kohl's Black Midi Pencil Skirt $9.08 - I love these on other people but haven't figured out how I want to style this yet.
Forever 21 Navy Cami $1.90 (not pictured) - This replaced the too big navy cami I just donated to GoodWill.  I've already worn this once.

I went just over double my $200 monthly budget but since some of this were investment pieces like the winter coat, I'm ok with it.  Also, I may still return some of the things.  This has been a good month selling things on eBay too.  I may start taking my eBay profits into account when considering my clothing budget.  Maybe I'll start that next month.

Hot Outside, Cold Inside

Jacket:  Forever 21 (old) - Dress:  H&M (old) - Shoes:  Aerosoles (old)
I took these pictures really quickly this morning so the quality is especially horrible.  I love this dress but don't wear it very often.  It is a super soft knit with an elastic waist.  I'm not sure why I don't wear it more often...maybe because I just don't wear dresses that much and I'm never quite sure what to layer over it.  The jacket is absolutely necessary in a cold office, but the sleeveless dress is absolutely necessary for when you go back outside.

Liking Lately

Just a few things I'm liking lately...

Took a Trip to Lake Erie (Kelley's Island and Put-In-Bay) with My Sister and Nephew

Strawberries on My Avocado Toast
Loving These Shoes Online - Under $50!  Not sure that I will order...
I'm still obsessed with the look of culottes and ordered these from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale.  We will see how they fit.  Culottes aren't the easiest thing to find (or look to pull off) for short legged people like me.

Good Enough

Sweater:  Old Navy (old) - Top:  LOFT (old) - Skirt:  Athleta (old) - Shoes:  Target (this spring - same)
I had planned on wearing my chambray wide leg pants today but when I woke up I wasn't feeling the 3 1/2" wedges I have to wear with those pants since they are so long.  I really wanted to wear flats so I switched to a skirt (that has built in shorts underneath).  Then I realized I was wearing all black and white AGAIN so I threw on a blue cardigan.  I don't hate it....I don't love it... it's good enough for a casual Friday at work.

More Black & White

Dress:  Kohl's (June 2015) - Shoes:  Aerosoles (old)
The last three outfits I have posted have been black and white.  It's classic and easy.  I love this dress from Kohl's that was one of my June purchases.  It is so comfortable yet it is dressy enough for work.  Plus it answers all of my shopping questions to the affirmative.  I think this is my new summer go to work look. (Not pictured is the black blazer I have on over it in the office.)

A Few Pictures and An Outfit From a Weekend in Chicago

Last weekend was my and my sister-in-law's annual trip to Chicago.  I would love to get to Chicago more than once a year, sometimes it happens but even if it doesn't, I enjoy any and every second I am there.

I didn't take many pictures but here are the few I did snap with my phone.

First Time Going To Taste

Eli's Key Lime Cheesecake

Cooking Demo by Adam Richman

View of Millenum Park from Cindy's at The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel (where we saw Corey Feldman in the lobby BTW)

I wanted to eat ALL.THE.THINGS at Eataly.  Bread, meat, cheese, gelato, chocolate, pastries....all of the things.  In the end, my only Eataly purchases were a glass of wine and a bottle of olive oil.

Glazed and Infused lived up to the hype.  Delicious donuts and Cub Pride.

View from our room at The Sheraton

What I wore walking around (and a little shopping) in Lincoln Park.  Dress is old from StyleMint.

My Style

Top:  Joie via Shopbop (December 2014) - Pants:  LOFT via Thred Up (last year) - Shoes:  Aerosoles
Out of anything I have worn to work in the past few months I would say this is more my style than anything.  I felt comfortable and confident in this.  It would probably be more professional with the top tucked in, but I liked it more untucked.  I like the neutral colors but with a print to add a little something.  I like that it is drapey but not too big.  I have only worn this shirt one other time since I purchased it in December.  This is one of those things that I love so I "save" it because I'm afraid I'm going to ruin it.  I have to stop doing that or else I end up wearing things I don't like all the time!  That's nuts!  Shouldn't you wear what you love more, not less?

Liking Lately

Since starting this little wardrobe project a few months ago, I think this blog has become pretty negative.  I feel like each post is me complaining and whining about what I'm wearing.  I guess that goes along with the evaluation of the contents of my closet and making changes that eliminate those complaints. Still, I thought I'd like to change things up and share some of the things I'm liking lately...all positives!

This book is as good as everyone says it is... it is hard to put down!

Silk Overlay Cami Dress

Love this Silk Overlay Cami Dress and pretty much everything at Madewell right now.  Target had some cute overlay dresses too.  Nothing that I need for my lifestyle but I like the look.

I'm seriously going to print out and save these shopping mistakes from The Zoe Report.  They have common sense fixes for each mistake and I need to remember all of them!

What Color Is Your TRUE Personality?

Can't believe how accurate this quiz is!

I've been on a baking kick lately.  Last thing I made was this Blueberry Cobbler Cake.  This picture demonstrates why I could never be a food blogger!  I added much less sugar to the top which is why mine looks so much different than the one on the site with the least I think so...I'm not the best baker or cook but I'm getting better!

Still Doesn't Fit

Cardigan:  Three Dots (old - similar) - Top:  Old Navy (May 2015 - here) - Pants:  Old Navy (old - similar) - Shoes:  Aerosoles (old)
Fit is everything!  I think if these things actually fit me, this would be an ok outfit.  As it is, the pants are too tight, the sweater is too big and the top is too big.  So close yet not quite right.  Picture it with a more fitted jacket that hits at the hip, a shorter top that doesn't quite scoop so low and pants that don't bunch at the knees.  That would be much better but would require more shopping patience, which I'm still developing, as well as a tailor which is another thing I don't have much patience for.  Have to keep working on it!

Winter Dress in The Summer

Dress:  Loft (last winter) - Shoes:  Franco Sarto via DSW (last summer)
I wore this dress a lot during the winter with a sweater, tights and boots.  I wore it this spring with tights and ankle boots (here).  This is my first time trying to transition it to summer.  I think this was ok but the fabric is so substantial that is just doesn't feel like a summer dress to me.  I might just have to wait for tights weather to wear it again.

Printed Pants

Sweater:  Old Navy (old) -- Tee:  H&M (old) -- Pants:  INC via Macy's (last year) -- Shoes:  Aerosoles (old)
After I bought these pants last spring the only way I wore them was a white H&M top.  It was one of my favorite outfits for work last summer and I still like it (I wore it again just a few weeks ago - here).  However, I want to get more milage out of everything in my closet so am trying to mix and match more.  Here are the same pants with a different top and sweater.   I'm trying to come up with more to wear with them.

The Shoes Make the Outfit

Top:  James Perse (last year - similar) -- Pants: JCrew New Campbell Capri (Feb. 2015) -- Shoes:  Me Too (old)
Like many of my outfits, I like this one in theory but not as much on me in real life.  I love this dolman top and don't wear it very often because I don't want to ruin it.  (I'm trying to break my habit of "saving" the clothes I love. )  I don't mind these pants and I don't mind the two together but I think the ballet flats ruin it for me.  I'll have to try it with different shoes and wear this top more often with different bottoms.
Thinking of my style, I think James Perse is a great example of the style I love and gravitate towards.  I would like this and this please.  Oh and this.
