Blogging Thoughts

image via

I have been posting to this blog for almost three years now.  I initially thought of it as a creative outlet and a way to share more of myself through the things I like; mainly fashion, shopping and photography.  Also, I found I like to group inspiring images and go back and look through them.... but now we have Pinterest for that!

Over the last few months, however, I have noticed I have felt like I HAD to post something instead of wanting to post something.  I never wanted blogging to be a job or to make money from it.  It is just something I do for myself. It is supposed to be fun, an outlet, not something I HAVE to do. I thought I might get interested again if I started focusing more on my own wardrobe and how I can remix it.  It didn't work.  I really get inspired from other people's outfit posts but I don't seem to enjoy doing my own.  I find it brings out an ugly, very critical, side of myself and I just don't like taking the time to do it!  I do still want to work on remixing what I have in my closet and buying less.  I think that might be easier if I focus less on my blog and since I haven't been feeling especially inspired to do it lately can see where this is heading.

I'm not saying I won't ever blog again.  I'm not saying that I won't post everyday after I publish this.  I don't know, maybe I just need a blogging break.  I guess I felt like I wanted to explain that I don't know where this blog is headed.  I will probably be posting less and I may start posting about different things.  We will see!  Thanks for reading!

What I Wore To Work Wednesday

Are there any iPhone 4S camera experts out there?  Here is a picture I took last Friday:

Tee:  StyleMint // Scarf:  Forever 21 // Skirt:  LOFT
Pretty clear right?  Now look at this one I took this week:
Top: Banana Republic // Skirt:  Express // Shoes:  Aerosoles
What is all this haziness about?  Every picture I take has this!!  I am blaming it on a depth of field app that I had downloaded and gives pictures this effect.  I opened the app once to mess around with it and after that the blurring effect is on my camera all the time.  I contacted the app's creator and they said it doesn't have access to the actual iPhone camera app so it couldn't be the culprit.  So it's just a coincidence?  So frustrating.  I guess I'm going to have to go to the Apple store to see if they can fix it...  Oh, I don't want to go to the Apple store.  Although it is close to Nordstrom...and J.Crew...

Friday's Fancies: Tank

This Friday's Fancies theme is Tank Tops! I love a tank top and I wear them constantly in the summer. They are so versatile - they can be dressed up, dressed down and are easy to layer when you are going in and out of the frigid air conditioning in the summer. I have many but my absolute favorite is from Forever 21. It is on it's third summer and is still in good shape especially for only costing $4.80.

I don't usually dress in this much color but I love this look!

What I Wore On The Weekend

Here is a pretty typical weekend outfit.  This is rare that everything I'm wearing here was purchased this spring (with the exception of the watch).  Usually I have some older stuff in the mix but this is all relatively new.

Shirt:  Old Navy  // Shorts:  Target Merona Nautical Short // Shoes:  Target Merona Erin Braided Upper Sandal // Watch:  Michael Kors

The shirt is a recent Old Navy clearance purchase.  I got it for $4.97 or something like that.

I love these shorts from Target.  The length is great.  They are loose, soft and comfortable but still look a little dressy.  I've almost worn these shoes out from Target already I have worn them so much!

This entire look (minus the watch again) cost under $40!

What I Wore To Work Wednesday

I am continuing to take pictures of what I am wearing most days in my ongoing effort to evaluate my closet, rework what I like and get rid of what isn't so great.  Most are not blog worthy since I take them mostly on my iPhone or the look just isn't good.  But I will share this one anyway.

This is what I wore to work last Wednesday and I was feeling pretty good about it until I saw this picture!  I love these pants that I bought from eBay last year.  They are from White House Black Market, were brand new with the tags attached and I believe I won them for $20.  I thought they fit great (I've actually worn them a lot) but they look a bit big in this picture...but maybe I'm just being too critical when I look at the photos.  All that matters is that I felt confident wearing it right?

Jacket:  Forever 21 // Pants:  White House Black Market via eBay // Shirt:  H&M // Necklace:  Etsy // Shoes:  Privo by Clarks // Watch:  Michael Kors

What I Wore To The Beach

Don't panic, there will not be any bathing suit pictures in this post.  I'm not sharing what I wore on Saturday to the beach, just Sunday morning, which is NOT a bathing suit.  I had a relaxing day at the beach on Lake Michigan planned for Saturday but the weather didn't cooperate.  It was cloudy and eventually rainy.  We did get a few hours of relax time on the cloudy beach though before the rain drops chased us away.  Honestly, any weather at the beach is better than not being by the water but I was hoping for some sun.

These are not the clouds you want to see at the beach!  I'm not entirely sure why I still had my sunglasses on...

We were able to have a nice walk on the beach on Sunday morning before lunch at my parents' house(It was only partly cloudy rather than all cloudy).  After lunch it was back home to reality.

Top: LOFT // Shorts: Gap // Hat:  Apt. 9 - Kohl's
I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Totes for a Cause

FEED is an organization that sells products to raise money to feed hungry people around the world.  FEED USA helps feed hungry school children in our country.

You can find FEED products at a variety of retailers and you have probably heard about the new FEED USA collection that launched in Target yesterday (there are a lot of cute products online - I haven't checked it out in person yet).  I love a great tote bag and you can't beat one that helps out a good cause.

Rachel Roy Limited Edition FEED India Tote Bag $78 at Shopbop

FEED Mixed-Media Function Tote Saks Fifth Avenue $100

FEED for Target® Look 6
FEED for Target® Women's Crossbody Bag... FEED For Target® $25

A brief history about the company (from

FEED began in 2006 when acclaimed model and activist Lauren Bush designed a bag to benefit the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) School Feeding program. As a WFP Honorary Student Spokesperson, Lauren visited countries around the world in Asia, Latin America, and Africa where WFP is operating and was inspired by the plight of the people she met on her travels. She took a special interest in WFP's School Feeding program, which feeds and educates hungry children. She first created the FEED 1 bag, a reversible burlap and organic cotton bag reminiscent of the bags of food distributed by WFP, to help raise funds and awareness around these school feeding operations. It was stamped with "FEED the children of the world" and the number ‘1’ to signify that each bag feeds one child in school for one year. And in 2007, FEED Projects LLC was founded by Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson to produce and sell these bags.
To date, FEED has been able to raise enough money through the sale of products to provide over 60 million school meals to children around the world through WFP. FEED has also partnered with the US Fund for UNICEF, raising much-needed funds for their Vitamin A and micronutrient supplements program and providing over 46,000 children with essential nutrients.
In addition to the company, FEED started a non-profit organization called the FEED Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting programs and organizations that are effectively working to fight hunger and eliminate malnutrition throughout the world.
