Friday's Fancies: Beach Bound

Beach Bound

This Friday's Fancies theme is the beach!  Despite the fact that I don't know how to swim, the beach is my most favorite place.  Any body of water, I want to be by it!

Target has some super cute swim suits.  They have all trends; fringe, crochet, laser cut, ruffle plus classic suits.  Going to the beach or pool, you absolutely have to have a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a great beach bag with a book, magazines or eReader!  I love this terry cloth case for your tablet from Amazon (hard to see but it says beach reading on it).  A cooler with water and snacks is a must for me too!  Of course I'd prefer to be at an all inclusive resort where a wonderful person just keeps bringing you fabulous frozen concoctions as you lay on the beach...

June Budget Report

I think I did a little better at budgeting this month.  I really thought hard about purchases and didn't buy anything without waiting a day or two to think about it first (except for the chambray top I blogged about here.  I just pulled the trigger on that one.).  I also tried to take a look at my wardrobe and see what I'm missing that would link more of what I have together.  I made a "hole in my closet" list of things that would round out my wardrobe and make more of what is already in my closet.

My first purchase of the month was this StyleMint Dinsmore Dress ($49.98).  I wanted a striped dress but with thin stripes and this is perfect.  Plus it came with a belt and I needed one that I could use on other dresses as well.  I haven't worn it yet...but I love it.

Next up an online purchase from Forever 21.  I had a colored blazer on my hole in my closet list and I love this coral one ($27.80).  Love this striped tank top (again with the skinny stripes) for $7.80.  I also ordered a pencil skirt ($17.80) but it didn't fit well so I returned it for a store credit.

I found this maxi dress on clearance at Target for $20.48.  I'm kicking myself that I didn't have one of their $5.00 off coupons at the time.  Still not a bad deal though and it fits great.

I won this Fossil Marlow bag on eBay for $55.64.  It was new with tags and had the original receipt inside where it was purchased in April for $158.  Not sure why they sold it on eBay and didn't return it but it works for me.  I have been using it every day since I got it.

I ordered these fantastic ikat shorts ($10.50), navy cardigan ($20 - another thing on my hole in my closet list) and running tank ($10) from Old Navy.

A trip to H&M yielded a comfy dress ($12.95 pictured above) and two swim suit cover ups at $4.95 each.

Other items:  Ivy Bird Print Blouse via Stitchfix $65.00 (seen here)
LC Lauren Conrad Chambray Henley Top $8.80 (seen here)
Banana Republic Factory Printed Tank Top $24.49

eBay profits so far in June: $45.07
Yard sale profit: $140

I still went over my self imposed $200 budget but it's getting better.  I read about these people who do shopping bans for a year and wonder how they do it.  I love the idea of buying less, only buying a few quality items and not cheap "fast" clothing...  but I'm having trouble actually doing it. I think I made a little progress in my second month of "budgeting" and I'm going to keep working on it!

Friday's Fancies: Summer Wish List

This summer I really want to focus on getting items that will compliment things I already have in my closet or that I don't have at all (like a good sun hat). Due to my seemingly uncontrollable shopping habit discussed previously on this blog, I have already purchased much that is on my summer wish list.  Here is the short version:

Summer Wish List

1.  A perfect packable sun hat like this one from Nine West at Macy's.  I received one in my last popsugar box that I think will work despite the fact that it is gray.  I'm going to test it out at the beach in July.

2.  A printed short like these I have ordered from Old Navy.  I can't wait to get these...they will be the brightest bottoms in my closet for sure.

3.  A striped or otherwise printed maxi dress.  Thinking about this one from Nordstrom.  I already have a few maxi dresses though...

4.  A light colored crossbody bag for summer.  I bought this Marlow Fossil on eBay for a steal.  I wanted to downsize my bag and this was the perfect excuse to do so.  It has been hard but I'm carrying less around now.

5.  Lightweight palazzo pants - hard to come by in petite. I found a pair that fit me at Macy's but didn't love the print.  I like these (pictured) online I think but haven't seen them in person.  I think the print might be a bit too big for my height. I love these from Anthropologie - just waiting for a sale.

Look What I Got (& Wore)

I haven't gone to Kohl's lately because I am always disappointed in their selection, and when I do find something I like, it rarely fits me (#firstworldshortpeopleproblems).  I decided to go back after a long hiatus because my husband needed some socks.  Kohl's is good for that kind of thing with their constant coupons and sales.  Of course I couldn't just leave with the socks and had to look at the women's clothes. I browsed a sale rack and found a LC Lauren Conrad Chambray Henley marked down 80%. Originally $44.00, it was marked down to $8.80 and then I had a 15% off coupon...

I wore it last Friday to work.

All my flowers in my backyard are blooming right now and I even have four tomatoes on my tomato plant (not pictured - obviously) already!  I haven't had much luck in this area in the past, fingers still crossed for this year.

Outift Inspiration: Crop Tops and Skirts

Crop tops were all over the 2012 spring/summer runways, are still in collections and now they seem to be everywhere.  I like the trend best when it is worn with a high-waisted pant or skirt so just a sliver of mid-section shows.  Would you wear a cropped top?

Frugal Option: Tory Burch Gabriel Shorts

These Tory Burch shorts are perfect for summer.  Though I don't have any printed pants, I think I might have to get some printed shorts.  Of course I love the color of these.

Tory Burch Gabriel Shorts $175

There are quite a few similar styles out there.  Though not an exact match, these are my current favorites on sale for $15.00 and then an extra 15% online with code ONSAVENOW makes them $12.75!

What I Wore To Work

I broke down and I have an animal print shirt.  Not a leopard print or snakeskin print, no this is an image of an actual bird.  While I have been following this trend and think it is cute, I didn't think it was me so wasn't going to participate. But then I received my latest StitchFix and there was this bird shirt.  I really like birds...and these look like silhouettes of ducks or geese flying not cartoony animals...and from far away you can't even tell they are birds...so it was what I kept from the fix.  The top is a little big but I guess one (me) is willing to sacrifice a little thing as proper fit when talking about this particular bird print top.

Don't know about StitchFix? It's a personal styling service that sends you 5 items personalized for you (you fill out a style profile before getting your first fix) to try on at home.  You keep what you want and return the rest.  There is a $20 styling fee that goes toward whatever you decide to keep from the fix.  I like receiving the boxes and seeing what they have picked out for me.  My only complaints are that usually the stuff is too big (they don't do petite stuff apparently and I am not one to get much tailored) and it is full price.  I rarely, if ever, pay full price for stuff so it is hard for me to justify these fixes.  It is super fun though and most of what they have sent I have not seen anywhere else.   I'm not getting paid by StitchFix to post this, I just wanted to share my experience and this bird print top.  If you use the link above and get a fix, I will get a $25 credit. However, that is not just for me, anyone can get that referral credit.
